I wrote this story about my family’s favourite fish and chips restaurant burning down when I was young. I decided it was arson and the reason for it was a broken heart. I decided that the owner of the restaurant had met the love of his life over fish and chips and they took over the business together. This song is about the fiery end of their relationship/ business.
*the monotymes does not condone arson in any form
lyrics
Darling you know I’m not a liar
But I’m the one who started that fire
Just wanted to get closer to the sun
But when you’ve burned as many bridges as I have it’s safe to run
And arson is not a crime
It’s just a cry for help and a waste of time
Just take a look at the price I pay
Selling my soul like lemonade
Now I’m beginning to be afraid
That you might be a firework
If you blow I might miss you
And when you go my hearts gunna heart
A match book and an open mind
Have those two things and you’ll be mine
Just look out for when I chase the sun
I might just burn our house down then pull out a gun
I lost my beer I lost my bride I lost my heart I lost my pride and I’m just getting a little tired of things not working out
I lost my beer I lost my bride I lost my heart I lost my pride and all the fires have gone dry and things stopped working out
Well maybe things stopped working out
When I stopped working out
Or when you stopped eating fish and chips you said that you were a vegan now
maybe everything went south when I screamed get out of my house
I don’t know
I guess I’ll just stick to what I’m good at
Insurance fraud looks like a crime
When you’re looking at it from the outside
But without you what does my life look like ?
Well it’s burning down everywhere we’ve ever been inside
And it starts with the place we met
It starts with the place we met
It starts with the place we met
and I can’t seem to forget,
until your memory is turned to ash
