about
This song is about trying and failing to be yourself around someone new. We wrote this song quite a while ago, before we were shut in our separate houses for a year and a half and the idea of meeting new people drifted out of our memories. We have always been able to be ourselves in Ottawa.
Thank you all for this time.
Love,
The Monotymes
lyrics
I feel grief
Whenever you’re out of town
Like a washing machine
Been kicking my head around
I’ll cheer for your team
As long as that means you come out
After all the cars leave
And all of the lights go out
I’m feeling special can you hear me
I love the way you’re standing near me
I feel so special can you hear me
I love the way you’re standing near me
But not too close not that close babe
Oooooh oh
Oooooooh oh
Maybe if we both were better
we wouldn’t mistake this love for shelter
thinking that our arms were big enough
to protect us from ourselves
And maybe if my name was Heather
we could sit and talk together
like two pretty little people
on the verge of something else
But as I sit here and I lie to you
and you look in my eyes and you lie to me
and we both try fucking hard to be
we’re trying to be
we’re trying to be our
Selves ohhhh
Selves ohhh
Selves
